MACU Trip- April 6th-9th

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Hey guys,

Several of our students have expressed interest in Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City, OK (visit the site at www.macu.edu).  This is where I (Julie) went and would not trade my experience there.  Here are the trip details:

When is the trip? Tuesday, April 6th- Friday, April 9th

Who can go? Students in 10th-12th grade

How much does it cost? $60 plus money for food on the way there and back (MACU is providing our meals while we are there on Wednesday and Thursday- LOVE free food)

How long is the drive? approx. 15-16 hours (more time with each other though!)

Where will we stay? MACU will set us up in the dorm rooms.  This lets you get to know the students there and get a fuller college experience.

What will we do there? On Wednesday and Thursday, we will be going to their chapel service, visit classes, meet with professors (especially the ones in areas you are more interested) and financial aid, and hang out with students there.

Space is limited, so please let me know if you are going ASAP!!! Email me at julie@eastland.org.

Icepocalypse Postponed due to…ICE

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Hey guys, hate to say it, but we have to cancel Icepocalypse for today.  The road conditions are too dangerous for all of us.  Love you guys and want you to stay safe.  See you Wednesday though!

T2 Prayer and Fasting Resources

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Hey guys, as we prepare to participate in this coming 40 days of prayer and fasting with the larger Eastland Church community, I wanted you to have some guidance if you need it.  Sometimes, thinking about doing anything for 40 days can seem overwhelming.  Remember that you’re not alone though.  We’ll be right beside you.  Here are 2 calendars to give you some guidance and thoughts to ponder as you prepare for and walk through this season- Prayer Thoughts for February and Prayer Thoughts for March.

Also, if you remember last semester, we spent a lot of time on Wednesday nights talking about different ways to relate with God.  We come to Him through our Savior, Jesus Christ.  We  just gave you tools that might help: praise, meditating on Him, thanks, confessing, praying for other people, and several others.  We used several tools of The Hour That Changes the World, a book that, if you give 5 minutes to each step, helps you spend an hour with God.  For this coming time of special devotion to God, you might start there…you might start with a couple minutes…or just use a particular way at different parts of your day.  Either way, here is the resource: The Hour that Changes the World – A Practical Model.

Week #2 Notes:  How to Have a God-Centered Fast (PDF)

Know that we are praying for and with you as we take this journey together.  You are loved.  You belong.  We believe in you.

March Happenings

Monday, February 8th, 2010

March is quickly approaching, and with it comes a HUGE time for Eastland Church and Eastland Student Ministry.  We have our Egg Project (yes, even during this up-coming season of prayer and fasting), a great service opportunity, and a time to gather and just have fun being the church together.  Mark your calendars for the following dates!

Easter Egg Project

Friday, Mar. 12th- Saturday, Mar. 13th – Our biggest fundraiser of the year!

We will be making our 70z. chocolate-covered eggs in all of our favorite flavors to raise money for student accounts.  Please plan on arriving on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 9am.

Bigger and Better Scavenger Hunt

Friday, Mar. 19th – Join us for a fun day of scavenging!  Unless we get more snow, school is scheduled to be out this day.  If Fayette County schools are still out, we will scavenge at 12 noon.  If school is in session, we will scavenge at 6pm.  Come and bring a friend!

Spring Break SERVICE BLITZ

Monday, Mar. 29th- Wednesday, Mar. 31st– If you went to KSYC this past fall, you remember going to serve at God’s Net.  We are going to continue that relationship with such a great organization!  We are again teaming up with people at God’s Net for 3 days of service and fun together.  Details will be announced as their biggest needs surface.  Just plan on giving part of your Spring Break to serve!

*Because the last week of March is the beginning of Passion Week (week before Easter), we will not be gathering on Wednesday night (31st).  Instead, plan on joining us on Thursday, April 1st with the rest of the Eastland community for Maundy Thursday.
